Set within part of the iconic Custard Factory (once home to Alfred Bird’s legendary dessert empire), Alfred Works will blend industrial heritage with culinary innovation. The name? A nod to Alfred Himself.
Behind our doors, you’ll discover a handpicked mix of independent kitchens and bars, each serving its own twist on global street food, comfort classics, sweet treats, and next-level drinks. Whether you’re planning a casual bite, cocktails with friends, or trying something new, this will be the go-to destination for shared experiences and standout flavours.
Expect pop-ups, themed nights, chef collaborations, and plenty more. Follow your nose, or your curiosity! Both will lead somewhere delicious.

Alfresco at Alfred Works
Birmingham’s newest outdoor space. Now open!
Set just across the river from Alfred Works and the iconic Custard Factory, Alfresco at Alfred Works is our new open-air social space – a laid-back area for relaxing with friends and family and hanging out when the weekend comes (and Thursday is the new Friday, right?).
Next to the outdoor space (which, of course, has a covered area, as the sun does not always shine) is a sports bar where you can watch all the very best in televised sport whilst enjoying a drink or food from one of our Food Partners. With a container kitchen serving fried chicken and three live-fire kitchens for you to enjoy, it’s your choice which part of the globe to enjoy. Curious about who’s serving in Alfresco? And thanks to our wide-open layout, the little ones can stretch their legs in the play area while you can finally drink that coffee before it gets cold. Miracles do happen.
